The Ethiopian Center for Development(ECD) through Pestalozzi Children's Foundation education project successfully conducted the first round of an EGRA (Early Grade Reading Assessment) and EGMA (Early Grade Mathematics Assessment) competition.

The Ethiopian Center for Development (ECD) through Pestalozzi Children's Foundation education project successfully conducted the first round of an EGRA (Early Grade Reading Assessment) and EGMA (Early Grade Mathematics Assessment) competition among Grade 3 and 4 students from eight partner schools, supporting the government’s efforts to improve language and mathematics outcomes. A total of 96 students (48 girls and 48 boys), along with 36 teachers and 8 cluster supervisors, actively participated in the event. The competition created a practical platform to strengthen reading and numeracy skills while encouraging healthy academic engagement. Top-performing students (1st to 3rd place) were recognized with awards, including reference materials, books, school bags, and storybooks. Beyond the prizes, the initiative has motivated students to work harder, build confidence, and strive for better academic performance. This competition will continue in the future, expanding to include inter-school levels, further promoting inclusive participation. Special Thanks to Pestalozzi Children's Foundation
