PATHWAYS TO LEARNING: AN INTEGRATED SCHOOL READINESS PROJECT (MENESHAYE)

Pathways to Learning: An Integrated School Readiness Project (Meneshaye) is a two-year initiative implemented by the Ethiopian Center for Development (ECD) in partnership with Children in Crossfire (CIC). The project is being implemented from April 2025 to April 2027 in Yeka, Kolfe Keranio, Lemi Kura, and Nifas Silk-Lafto sub-cities of Addis Ababa.
The project aims to enhance access to quality early childhood education through play-based learning, improved teacher capacity, strengthened school environments, and active community engagement. By supporting pre-primary schools, teachers, caregivers, and local stakeholders, the initiative seeks to ensure that young children enter primary school ready to learn and thrive.
The project directly benefits 13,699 pre-primary school children and indirectly reaches 17,504 community members, including parents, caregivers, and educators. Key interventions include teacher training, classroom transformation, establishment of model learning environments, improvement of school infrastructure, creation of safe outdoor play spaces, parenting education, livelihood support for vulnerable caregivers, and strengthening coordination among education stakeholders.
Through a holistic approach that combines quality education, responsive caregiving, community participation, and institutional capacity building, the Meneshaye Project is contributing to improved learning outcomes, child well-being, and sustainable early childhood development in Addis Ababa.
