THE EARLY MARRIAGE FUND: COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT FOR CHILD PROTECTION

Community Empowerment for Child Protection (CECP) project in Ethiopia, a partnership between Plan International Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Center for Development (ECD) aimed at eliminating child marriage.
Project Goal: Strengthen community and multi-sectoral responses to end child marriage and other harmful traditional practices.
Implementation: Executed in 35 Kebeles within the Aneded and Basoliben woredas of the East Gojam Zone, Amhara region, from April 2017 to November 2018.
Partnership: Worked closely with the Government of Ethiopia, specifically local Women and Children Affairs Offices.
Direct beneficiaries across 35 Kebeles in two Woredas.
Child Protection: Over 300 girls and boys were rescued from child marriage, and 21 health centers were equipped with age verification facilities.
Community Capacity Building: The project trained over 1,145 individuals, including community dialogue facilitators, school club members, and religious leaders.
Support Services: 185 caregivers received entrepreneurship training, and over 310 girls were provided with school materials.
